- Elevator Screens (also called Closing Doors) are one of the most difficult actions to defend in basketball.
How it works
- The entire action lives and dies on timing: 1.
- Doors Open: The two screeners are positioned with space between them — enough for a cutter to run through.
- Cutter Enters: The shooter runs directly through the gap at full speed. The defender tries to follow.
- Doors Close: As the cutter clears the gap, both screeners step together simultaneously, closing the lane and sealing the defender behind the screen. The defender is physically unable to follow.
- Cutter Receives: The cutter emerges on the other side of the screens and catches a pass for a catch-and-shoot three-pointer or pull-up jumper.
