Help and recover is a tactic used when a ball handler beats their defender.
Help-side defense is the organization of off-ball defenders who are two or more passes away from the ball.
Every transition defense faces a fundamental tactical decision when the offense has numbers: Where do we give up the easiest shot?
When a guard sets a ball screen, the nearest help defender "tags" the roll man (momentarily takes responsibility for the roll) before recovering to their own man
