Defensive communication is the verbal language of a coordinated defense.
As established in Volume 4's system-level communication chapter, shared vocabulary is the foundation of team communication—every player must use identical terminology for identical concepts, or breakdowns are inevitable.
Guard Calls (During possession): "Switch!" → All defenders switch assignments (change from man-to-man to switching coverage)
Play Name: Coach calls set name or number.
Coach Calling Adjustments: Coach sees trend in game (e.g., "They keep attacking our drop coverage")
Position Assignments: Coach names play assignment: "1 defends Primary Ball Handler," "5 defends Stretch Big"
