What it is

How it works
- One player (typically a guard) sets up around half-court or the free throw line, two players line up at the elbow/wing level, and two players form the baseline.
- In a 1-2-2 press, the point player denies the initial pass to the receiver cutting up the sideline.
- The wings trap on the ball if the ball handler penetrates.
- The baseline players defend the back cuts and deep passes.
- The 1-2-2 press is aggressive and can force turnovers early in the possession, but it is vulnerable to skip passes and attack-and-kick plays if the offense is organized.
