What it is

Why it matters

It is a key 4-out / drive-and-kick spacing spot (5-out spacing has no dunker), giving a drive-oriented offense rim pressure and floor balance.
It turns a non-shooter into a spacing asset: occupying the low man and creating dump-off and lob pressure (though if poorly spaced it can clog the lane).
It is a prime finishing and offensive-rebounding zone, since the player is already inside the help and positioned beneath the rim.

How it works

As the ball attacks the strong side, the dunker stays low and weak-side, occupying the help defender (the "low man").
When the help defender steps up to tag a roller or stop a drive, the dunker dives to the front of the rim for a drop-off pass and a layup or dunk.
If the shot goes up, the dunker is already inside position for an offensive rebound and putback.
