Charleston 5-Out Transition Offense

What it is

• One of the best 5-out transition systems at the college level.

How it works

• Combines full-court speed with immediate 5-Out spacing — players sprint to their spots and the half-court action starts without a reset.

Reads and counters

• The first sprinter reads the rim defender: if the lane is open, finish in transition before the defense matches up.
• The ball handler reads the trailing big: no rim protector set, attack downhill; walled off, kick to a sprinting corner shooter.
• Wings reading their defender's run-back angle should sprint to the deep corners to stretch the floor and open the middle drive.
• On the catch, read the closeout: drive a hard one, shoot a late one, or flow into a handoff or ball screen.
• The trailer reads spacing and either spaces to the top for a swing or dives to the rim when his defender hugs the perimeter.
