5-Out Entry Series: Wide

What it is

• "Wide" is the most common 5-Out entry — the ball is pushed to one side of the floor into a DHO or pindown action.

How it works

• The floor stays spread with players filling corners and wings.
• After the initial Wide entry fails to generate, the ball handler turns the corner with a dribble and attacks.
• Wrap to mid-post if the roll man seals
• Ball swings to the elbow (foul line extended).
• Hit the roll man on the basket cut

Reads and counters

• The DHO receiver reads the on-ball defender: if trailed over the top, turn the corner and attack downhill; if jumped, reject the handoff and back-cut.
• The feeder reads his own defender: a hard show means keep it and short-roll behind; a drop means complete the handoff for the receiver's pull-up or floater.
• Read the low corner defender on the same side: if he stunts to wall the drive, spray to the corner shooter he abandoned.
• After the Wide entry stalls, the ball handler reads help rotation off the turn-corner dribble and either hits the basket-cutting roll man or swings to the elbow.
• Read the help-side x-out: if the weak corner defender lifts, skip the ball cross-court before the long closeout recovers.
