Pass-and-Go Press Break

What it is

• Simple sequential ball movement: pass → cut → receive → advance.

How it works

• Pass before the trap arrives — release the ball before two defenders can fully form the trap
• Cut after every pass — creates two problems for the press: cover the cutter, or leave space
• Never dribble into a trap — every dribble gives the press time to close. Pass first, always.
• Attack the middle — not just lateral movement along the sideline

Reads and counters

• Read the nearest trapper: if a second defender sprints to trap, release the ball before it closes, then sprint past.
• After passing, read your defender: if he turns to ball-watch, cut hard behind him to the open middle for the return pass.
• The receiver reads the floor before catching: pivot up-court and find the teammate who already broke free ahead of the ball.
• If the middle is walled off, use the sideline valve but never pick up your dribble there, where the trap wants you.
• Read numbers up the floor: once you beat the first trap, attack downhill into the 4-on-3 or 3-on-2 before the defense recovers.
