What it is

• Step 1: Handler dribbles toward screener's location.

How it works

• Option A: Stay on original handler (they're now off-ball)
• Option B: Switch to screener (defending screener's action)
• Option C: Trap screener (double-team immediately after handoff)
• If defender stayed, screener has space to attack
• If defender switched, screener might have a size mismatch

Reads and counters

• Receiver reads his defender: trailed over the top, turn the corner downhill; chased under, rise into the catch-and-shoot pocket.
• If the on-ball defenders switch the handoff, the dribbler-screener immediately seals and dives to the rim hunting the size or speed mismatch.
• If both defenders trap the receiver, the handoff man slips behind for a give-and-go or skips to the weakside shooter.
• The handoff man reads how tightly his own defender helps: a heavy tag opens his pop or short roll, light help means keep handing off and re-screen.
• On a fumbled or denied handoff, the receiver reads it as a pitch-and-rescreen and loops back for a second handoff or a back cut.

• Hand it and hunt the bump
• Turn the corner, don't drift
• Slip behind the show
• Catch on the move, never flat-footed
• Seal and dive on the switch
